YA Indie Carnival!

Welcome to The Shootin' Gallery and the nineteenth post in the YA Indie Carnival. The carnival is designed for authors, readers and reviewers of YA Indie books. Each Friday this team of YA Indies will post on a common theme.

This week’s post theme is On the rise... YA Fantasy!

Who knows why this seems to be the new trend with young people and adults alike but I for one find it refreshing. Maybe people are more drawn to these books because they know when they read them they can escape to another world, far from reality and the day in and day out monotony of their every day life... or maybe not. Maybe the answer is more simple. YA Fantasy books are just so darn cool!

Either way I find the timing of this post theme to be quite convenient. Beginning at midnight on November 18th movie theaters all over the world will premiere, Breaking Dawn Part One, the first film to document the last book in the Twilight Saga. It has been a wild ride has it not Twilight fans? I wish I could say that am one of the crazed adoring fans that will be present for the opening of this film but unfortunately work calls upon me too early in the morning. I will have to wait it out a little longer. Such a bummer, I know...

At any rate, The Twilight series isn't the only YA book to reach the silver screen these days. Don't forget about J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter series. I suspect Ms. Rowling is largely responsible for this new trend in popularity with YA fantasy books. Another great read to hit the screens is Rick Riodan's Percy Jackson series as well as Pitticus Lore's I am Number Four.

Here is a list of some other YA Fantasy books turned films which are anticipated to hit movie theaters in the near future.

Firelight by Sophie Jordan

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher

Wake by Lisa McMann

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

and..

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

I personally cannot wait for City of Bones and The Hunger Games, awesome!!!

Paranormal Perfection!

What is Paranormal Perfection?
I love to read YA Paranormal stories (if you haven't figured that out yet, lol). Lucky for me, the ebook world seems to be jammed packed with fantastic, young adult, paranormal writers. My new goal for my blog is to feature a new and wonderful read by YA indie paranormal authors that I love each week. Some of these authors I have have never met, some I have had to pleasure to chat with on the internet and some I have had the pleasure to meet in person.

This week's selection of Paranormal Perfection is Fateful by Cheri Schmidt.

I have had the good fortune to get to know this phenominally talented writer on Goodreads, the YA Sisterhood on FB and as a fellow member of the YA Indie Carnival, a weekly blog tour hosted and posted by numerous fine and friendly YA Indie bloggers and authors.

Synopsis:
A huge fan of Jane Austen, Danielle hopes to find her own Mr. Darcy when she leaves Colorado to attend art school in London. Of course she knows it's silly to wish for that, naive even. But she's met enough males who lacked respect for women, a growing trend it seemed. And at nineteen...well.... However, on only her second night there she gets lost and is threatened by a stalker who proves to be immune to her martial arts training. Before she is completely overpowered, she is then saved by Ethan Deveroux.

While Danielle does find the romance she seeks in Ethan, he's no Mr. Darcy. Her hero is held by a spell which fractures their chance at a happy ending. During the day Ethan is closer to mortal than immortal and can date her like any other man. Yet, as the sun sets, the powerful magic of an ancient curse returns and the evil of that spell is revealed. When that magic begins, Danielle's fairytale romance ends because Ethan Deveroux is a vampire.

My Review!

Fateful by Cheri Schmidt is one heck of a paranormal romance read. Fateful is the tale of star crossed lovers, Danielle and Ethan. Danielle is an American mortal new on the London scene. Her family has entrusted her into her Aunt and Uncle's care while she attends a local college to study art. Ethan is the brave and mysterious vampire who saves Danielle from a much darker version of what he is.

In this incredible story the unlikely pair fall in love. The mystery surrounding the familiarity they feel toward one another and the impossible quest for a cure to their differences make this book a captivating and fascinating read.

If you are a fan of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Series or Amanda Hocking's My Blood Approves Series, Fateful is a book you will definitely want to settle into. I absolutely loved the characters Cheri Schmidt brings to life in this tale of dangerous love and can hardly wait to read the next installment, Fractured.

I give Fateful 5 stars!

YA Indie Carnival!

Welcome to The Shootin' Gallery and the eighteenth post in the YA Indie Carnival. The carnival is designed for authors, readers and reviewers of YA Indie books. Each Friday this team of YA Indies will post on a common theme.

This week’s post theme is 11 Reasons....!

What an open ended theme! I love it! Being the optimistic soul that I am I decided to look at this post as an opportunity to remind myself and others about what is truly important in life. In a world which is constantly changing (and not always for the better) I think it is important to remember that our lives are what we make of them. So, with this idea in mind I've decided to give all of you 11 reasons to be happy!

Reason #1 Physical & mental health
This reason is fairly self explanatory, right? Many folks in the world struggle from day to day due to illness and/or mental disease (including addictions). Those of us who have been blessed with healthy bodies and sound minds should be grateful for our fortune. Being a person who has learned how to live/cope with a rare illness I feel especially grateful for my ability to still be able to live out my life and dreams. Not everyone can do this and I am forever grateful to God for my good fortune.

Reason #2 Being resilient in tough times
Today we are living through a challenging economy which has caused many of us to endure hardships along the way (loss of work, cut wages, decreased benefits). These factors only complicate and make more difficult the already existing challenging factors which may be present in our lives (loss of loved ones, debt, troubled relationships). Our ability to cope with these hardships and take care of ourselves and the ones we love is a blessed gift which should not be taken for granted but treasured and honored.

Reason #3 Work satisfaction
Doing what you love may perhaps one of the most celebrated aspects of our lives. I teach high school and working with teens everyday gives me a sense of purpose in this world. I feel if I only touch one life I will have made a difference. This reality is very gratifying, especially in a day and time where my profession is not as respected and appreciated as it once was. Celebrate what you do and make it meaningful!

Reason #4 Good relationships with colleagues, friends and loved ones

Nuture your relationships. Make efforts to collaborate with collegues and share your success. Tell your friends and loved ones that you love them, they matter to you, and that you are proud of them. Make sure they understand thier importance in your life. Relationships are a give/give effort. The more you give the more you receive in return.

Reason #5 Living a long life
Take care of yourself (exercise, eat healthy, reduce stress). So often we think of others and we neglect ourselves. If we truly love the people we take care of then we need to maintain ourselves. We need to take good care of ourselves so that we may be around long enough to enjoy those we love with out leaving them too soon... leaving them to miss us and regret our absence.

Reason #6 Inspiring others
Be yourself, be happy, be selfless, live life to the fullest! Share your joy, tears and fears with the world. If you do this it will be impossible to leave this world with out becoming at least one person's inspiration.

Reason #7 Being inspired by others
Let positive people rub off on you and lift you up! Don't say, "I wish I could be like that." or "I wish I could do that." You can do whatever you put your heart into. Surround yourself with positive and adventurous people. Your life will explode with fun and satisfaction and you'll surprise yourself by accomplishing things you never dared to dream before.

Reason #8 Liking yourself
Be your own best friend. If there is something about you that you don't like, change it or forgive yourself and move on. No one is perfect, even God forgives us for that. Look at each new day as opportunity to do something great with your life, that's a lot of chances!

Reason #9 Liking others
Too often we dwell on the negative. Challenge yourself to see the good in people. Look beneath the surface. Underneath the rough exterior may lie a heart of gold. Give people 2nd, 3rd and 4th chances. I'm not suggesting that you be a door mat, only that you keep your door open. Sometimes people only need to know that you like them to allow themselves to like you in return. After all, you can never have too many friends.

Reason #10 Being blessed with a loving family
Love and cherish your family. They are your heart and soul, your inspiration, your reason for living and giving and sacrificing. They are enough... for everything we must endure.

Reason #11 Being a parent
My children are my legacy to life. If my lessons in the class room are forgotten and my books are forever sealed and never read again I know my genetic line will continue on, making a mark on the world. Children are precious, they are our future. We gave life to the future presidents of The United States of America. We gave life to the scientists who will one day cure the world's most horrible illnesses. We gave life to future of the world!

I hope you enjoyed my 11 reasons... and I hope right now you feel a little bit happier and inspired by life! Before you head off to the next booth in the carnival please don't forget about...

What is Paranormal Perfection?

My new goal for my blog is to feature a new and wonderful read by YA indie paranormal authors that I love each week. Some of these authors I have have never met, some I have had to pleasure to chat with on the internet and some I have had the pleasure to meet in person.

This week's selection of Paranormal Perfection is I Wish by Wren Emerson.

Wren Emerson is a phenominal writer and sweetheart of a gal. I feel quite fortunate to blog and write indie YA along side this extraordinary lady.

Synopsis for I Wish
All she ever wanted was a chance to settle down in one place.

Thistle Nettlebottom knows her life isn't exactly normal. She travels the country with her secretive mother and bestselling author grandmother in a pink RV going from book signings to crazy research trips. She's never been to public school or had a boyfriend, but she can pick a lock and hotwire a car. One day the phone rings and they set a course to a tiny town that's not on any maps. Suddenly, Thistle finds her whole life changing.

She's finally found the home she's been searching for.

Thistle soon realizes that Desire isn't like other towns and she's not like other girls. The family she trusted has lied to her about everything her entire life and the things she doesn't know about herself could cost her everything. Her legacy as one of the most powerful witches the town has ever seen has made her enemies that have been waiting patiently for a chance to destroy her. Thistle needs to learn to use her powers to protect herself before they succeed.

Be careful what you wish for.

Thistle has a power unique even among the magic wielding witches of Desire. She can wish things into existence. At first she enjoys the freedom of having everything her heart desires, but she soon realizes that her power comes at a terrible price. She's losing her grip on her sanity at a time when she can't afford any weakness. Her enemies are closing in quickly, but she might not have the strength to save herself.

My Review
Wren Emerson's I Wish is a unique and suspenseful tale of a girl with an equally bizarre life before she discovers she is a witch. I literally read this book in one day. The suspenseful plot, non - stop insanity of the characters and unfathomable events that transpired kept my eyes glued to my Kindle until I read the last line. I can't wait to learn what happens next.

If you're looking for something a with a new twist that is action packed and extremely tense (in a fidgety, finger nails embedded into your recliner cushion sort of way) you've got to grab this read!

I gave I Wish... 5 stars!

YA Indie Carnival!

Welcome to The Shootin' Gallery and the seventheenth post in the YA Indie Carnival. The carnival is designed for authors, readers and reviewers of YA Indie books. Each Friday this team of YA Indies will post on a common theme.

This week’s post theme is Blast from the Past!

OK, so the days of computer technology and flash drives were not a part of my teen life, nor am I the pack - ratting, overly sentimental type that hordes every momento I've ever aquired. What I mean to say is that I didn't actually preserve anything from that time period of my life to share.

But... I do have my memories and I can recall the types of things I wrote and how I felt during that time period so I can probably re - create something that is fairly Amy - 80's - esque.

In my high school days I was the ONE nice girl on the cheer leading squad. Come on, you know there was at least one, admit it. Anyway, I never really gave into the whole click thingy. My friends were my friends no matter what brand of clothing they wore (Guess or Levi's), shade of lipstick they shimmered (cherry red or black) or hairstyle they rocked (big hair or punk spikes). It did not matter to me. If you were nice to me I would be your friend. Common sense told me you could never have too many friendships and to this day I believe that to be true.

Looking back on my teen years I now realize that I was not very happy. I thought I was. I had lots of friends, was involved heavily in extra curricular activities, I made decent grades... So, what did I have to be unhappy about? Well, for starters, boys! Oh yes, boys were the root of many ills. Broken hearts, jeolousy, disappointment, ruined friendships... you can see where I am going with this. Second, feeling different from everyone else (which I now realize is completely normal for teens). I think my real problem was my intuitiveness. I have a tendency to over think things a lot and let me tell this can be a very bad habit for a teenager. Also, I'm pretty darn perceptive, also not the best thing for a teenager. No, I believe I would have faired much better in high school if I could have avoided boys and remained blissfully ignorant to the shenanigans going on around me but that didn't happen. So, I wrote depressing poetry and LIVED in my bedroom with the door closed. I listened to loud recordings of Bon Jovi and Def Leppard blaring for weeks at a time and attempted to repress reality. Healthy, right? NOT!!! Still, I survived.

My poems always had a theme. Anger, sadness and love were a few of my favorites. Like I said, I do not have an actual poem from this time period but I will attempt to retreat into my teen angst driven, sixteen year old brain and re - create something symbolic of my youthful efforts. Here it goes...

Love

Complicated, consuming, careful...
Never easy,
Never boring,

Energizing, mesmerizing, spectacular...
always pleasing,
kissing, teasing,

I surrender to love...

Whoa!!! That was weird but kind of fun! At any rate, that's all I've got for you but I'm looking forward to blog hopping onto my fellow YA Carni's pages to peruse over their teen - minded master pieces.

Before you head off to the next booth in the carnival please don't forget about...

This week's selection of Paranormal Perfection is Meant to Be by Tiffany King. I have had the pleasure of meeting Tiffany in person this past weekend in Savannah, GA during The Paranormal Plume's Society Book Tour. So many of my favorite authors were in attendance on this adventure but I selected Tiffany today because I love the subject of her book series.

In addition to being an excellent writer, Tiffany is a beautiful person. She is kind and thoughtful, comical and lots of fun to hang out with. She is the mother of a teenager and writes her books with her daughter in mind. I think she is an excellent role model for youth and I feel privileged to have made such a wonderful new friend.

Here is my review for Meant to Be

Angels... the good and the not so good. This story of love and betrayal is entrancing. Tiffany King blew my mind with this originally plotted and brilliantly written treat. It isn't like anything you've ever read and I mean that in a very, very, very good way.

What is it about? Essentially, an angel becomes dis -satisfied with his place and appointment in the grand scheme of things and he falls into the darkness. This in itself is bad enough, but what makes it a total nightmare is his persistent commitment to redesign the code of angels, even if it means murdering them. There is also a heart warming love story woven into to this phenomenal tale. A romance so sweet and solid it will touch your soul.

I love all of the characters in this story. Each is unique, vulnerable, brave, intelligent, and easy to relate to. They are so real that by the books end you will feel as if you've met them personally.

Ms. King's writing style has a no non-sense, get to the point character voice that allows you to see and feel what the main character is experiencing and processing emotionally.

If you're a fan of young adult romance, science - fiction/fantasy and/or action and adventure this is the book for you. Fans of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series, you simply MUST pick up Meant to Be!

I gave Meant to Be 5 stars!
